New Truck Update
We managed to put 300 miles on the new truck over the weekend. Here's my update.
What I like:
What I like:
- cruise control--the old truck didn't have it, but it should have
- alarm--unexpected, I don't care for most electric convenience crap (exception: cc), especially not keyless entry. I like to walk my wife to the car, unlock it, and open the door for her. Keyless entry make opening the door for a passenger a bit contrived. Back to the point, this truck came with Ford's advanced security crap and it includes a pushbutton lock on the driver side. I really like being able to unlock the door without having to go back inside the house and find my keys!
- visibility--even better than the old dodge
- mirrors--very nice
- ride--I expected a 1 ton would ride stiffer than my old 1/2 ton Dodge. Not so! I can describe the ride as very firm, but not stiff!
- gas mileage--currently less than the old Dodge, I hope it gets better during break-in!
- rear seat floor trays--these fold out to give a flat surface for carrying gear, then the fold back under the seat. There is no room under or behind the seat for my tool bag. This means the bag will be easily seen through the windows. I may remove one of the trays (there are two: 1/3 and 2/3 widths like the bench they are under), but I'm afraid that will leave the other tray almost useless. Maybe I'll remove both?
- one touch 4x4--let me just say: %#$^@#%!!! I hate vacuum actuated 4x4. As soon as you need it? 2 wheel drive only my friend. I suppose I'll have this replaced with the manual lever when the actuator fails. I find it hugely annoying that the dealers don't stock 4x4s with manual levers. At least the locking hubs have a semi-manual setting. What's more, it has locking hubs!!!
- electric windows--I despise electric windows. My van has electric windows, 2 of which work intermittently.
- steps--the steps are mounted to the body and may cause significant damage when I use the truck off road. These need to be replaced by some sort of nerf bar/sliders. Something that will add to durability instead of subtract from it!
